Microsoft's Office Apps Support on Chromebook will no longer be available on September 18

Microsoft's Chromebook office apps are reportedly being phased out. According to a new rumor, Google wants Chromebook users to switch to web-based apps. This will be considered in mid-September, and the apps will continue to work even if Microsoft no longer supports them. Chromebook users can download Microsoft's Office programs from the Google Play Store and enjoy all of its features, while Microsoft 365 provides additional capability through the Web.

Microsoft stated in an email statement obtained by TechCrunch that Microsoft programs for Chromebook users will be transferred to Web experiences beginning September 18. After September 18, Microsoft will no longer support Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, and they will no longer be updated or optimized. Instead, for the "optimal experience," Microsoft advises Chromebook users to use the Web versions of these programs.

"The web experiences (Office.com and Outlook.com) of Microsoft products (Office and Outlook) will be transferred on September 18, 2021, to provide Chromebook consumers with the greatest experience," according to the statement.

Microsoft believes that Chromebook users will convert to the Microsoft 365 service, which has more capabilities than individual programs, as a result of the Web experience. The Web technique, according to TechCrunch, is better suited to larger displays than the apps. It also implies that Office apps will continue to function on mobile and tablet devices.

Additionally, until September 18 or later, Chromebook users can continue to use Office programs, though Microsoft will no longer support them. This indicates that no new features or enhancements will be added in the future.

Microsoft has also provided web-based instructions for installing Office on Chromebooks. It is necessary to have a Microsoft account or any other account related to your Microsoft 365 membership.
