I am sure many people are looking for fitness routines in many parts of India as they slowly open up, while other people are all set to start new fitness routines. The latest addition to its famous fitness-tracking lineup, Mi Smart Band 6, is a good time for Xiaomi. The new Mi Smart Band 6 has SpO2 measurement and can now track more workouts than could have been done with Mi SmartBand 5. Would the Mi Smart Band 6 be better with a different wearable if you would take on a fitness journey? For a few weeks I've been using Mi Smart Band 6 and this is my review.

In India, the Mi Smart Band 6 price

In India, the Mi Smart Band 6 costs Rs. 3,499, but owners of previous Mi Smart Band models can get a Rs. 500 discount, bringing the price down to Rs. 2,999. Xiaomi is selling the Mi Smart Band 6 only in black with a black strap, but you can buy different colored straps to customize your fitness band.

Design and specifications of the Mi Smart Band 6

The Mi Smart Band 6 is made up of two parts: a capsule-shaped core and a TPU strap, just like previous Mi Smart Bands. The Mi Smart Band 6 appears to be identical to its predecessor, the Mi Smart Band 5, at first glance, but the difference is obvious the moment the display turns on. While the Mi Smart Band 5's display was small and rectangular, the Mi Smart Band 6's display reaches the capsule's borders and has very thin bezels on the top and sides. With a resolution of 152x486 pixels, the AMOLED display now measures 1.56 inches. It includes toughened glass on the top and an anti-fingerprint coating that helped to keep the unit free of smudge in my experience.

The capsule is removable although you don't really have to because you can load it with the magnetic loader supplied. The bottom of the capsule features pins to charge the battery with 125mAh. The battery capacity of Xiaomi has not been boosted up over Mi Smart Band 5 leading to some apprehensions with the larger screen before testing. The heart rate sensors and SpO2 tracking are located right above the charging connections. On the Mi Smart Band 6, you have no physical buttons and the whole navigation is tailored. Xiaomi developed the Band 6 waterproof to 5ATM, it can track swimming, indeed.

The Mi Smart Band 6 supports Bluetooth 5 and may be coupled with an Android 5.0 or higher smartphone. The Mi Smart Band 6 can also be matched to an iOS 10 or above iPhone. The Mi Fit or Xiaomi Wear applications are available. The popular Strava app is also compatible. I utilized the Xiaomi Wear app, the same app I used for review by Redmi Watch and the Mi Watch Revolve Active.

Software and features of the Mi Smart Band 6

The functionality of the Mi Smart Band 6. Xiaomi argues that this wearable has 30 different fitness modes and six different types of training can automatically be detected. You can track steps, distance, and sleep along with SpO2, track stress and menstrual cycle tracking with the Mi Smart Band 6. The Mi Smart Band 6 can also calculate what Xiaomi calls a PAI, based on the various health metrics.

It is quite easy to combine the application with the Mi Smart Band 6 and many band parameters can be altered. You can choose which widgets and in what order are on My Smart Band 6. You can choose from many widgets, but only six can be put to Band 6. You may check all the characteristics of your activity on the app, whatever you choose. You can also choose which apps to use on the Mi Smart Band 6.

Features for health monitoring can also be set up with the connected application. You can select the heart rate tracking frequency and switch to a stress check all day long, and allow the sleep attendant to increase the heart rate tracking frequency while you're sleeping. Xiaomi also added a breathing score metric, currently in beta, with the Mi Smart Band 6. During sleep, your blood oxygen levels are monitored by a SpO2 sensor from Mi Smart Band 6. The majority of these capabilities are turned off by default, so you'll have to spend some time in the app to customize the device to your preferences.

You can also choose which app you can notify with the Mi Smart Band 6 in the Xiaomi Wear application. You can even set up the smartphone band and vibrate for incoming calls.

performance and battery life of the Mi Smart Band 6

I tested the accuracy and battery life of Mi Smart Band 6 for two weeks. This is one of the best wearables in this price segment with regard to tracking accuracy. When I went I counted 1,000 steps by hand, and the Mi Smart Band 6 recorded a negligible deviation of 1,002 steps. I walked 1km on a belt with the Mi Smart Band 6 treadmill mode to check the accuracy of the distance and measured it at the same time. You can also save the distance from the treadmill workout with this device.

I used my Mi Smart Band 6 on my right handle and an Apple Watch SE on my left to compare the accuracy of their cardiac tracking. With only occasional minor deviation, the Mi Smart Band 6 displayed cardiac rate readings in the same range as the Apple Watch SE. Tracking sleep on the Mi Smart Band 6 was accurate too. When I went to bed and woke up, the device accurately recorded that. The application provides a breakdown of deep, light, REM, and waking periods and, if this feature is activated, a breathing score (based on SpO2 readings). Tips to improve your respiration are also available.

SpO2 tracked on Mi Smart Band 6, which returned measurements within the range of a standard pulse oximeter, was also fairly accurate.

Xiaomi promises 14 battery days, but if you practice five days a week and track all factors frequently it's quite improbable that you will get hit. By default the majority of capabilities of the Mi Smart Band 6 are off, thus pulse tracking does not continue, app notifications or stress monitoring is required unless it is desired. I have measured my pulse every five minutes with my Mi Smart Band 6, activated app notifications and sleep score and idle alarms, and five times a week followed up with my workouts. The Mi band 6 lasted eight days with these settings before the load was reloaded.

It was easy to load Mi Smart Band 6. I didn't have to pull out the band's capsule. The magnetic loader is securely linked to the base of the band. Loading it in half an hour from zero to 40% and 83% in an hour. The battery life is lower than the Mi Smart Band 5, so you'll have to load it more often.

Final Verdict of the Mi Smart Band 6

I can state that it is an honest fitness band and its measurements often rely on, after two weeks of trying the Mi Smart Band6. When tracking steps, distance and sleep are included, it's pretty accurate. Compared to the Mi Smart Band 5, fitness tracking has improved, and consequently, the Mi Smart Band 6 can monitor a larger spectrum of training. SpO2 has also been added at an honest time to allow you to get rapid readings every day.

In comparison to its predecessor, Xiaomi didn't modify the battery capacity of the Mi Smart Band 6. This is one thing with the following model that I might want to see improved. Battery life has decreased with the larger display and additional functions. It can still be appropriate to use for 8-10 days, therefore it is still an honest, worthwhile fitness wearable.

Pros and Cons of the Mi Smart Band 6

Pros

  • SpO2 follow-up
  • fairly precise monitoring of step and distance
  • Precise control of sleep

Cons

  • In comparison to the Smart 5, lower life of the battery
