In a forum post, OnePlus Co-Founder and CEO Pete Lau and Oppo CPO Pete Lau stated that the two companies have agreed to merge their own OxygenOS and ColorOS skins into a new unified operating system. The new operating system will be included in the OnePlus flagship series, which is set to launch in 2022. It's the product of the OnePlus and Oppo combination, which was announced earlier this year. In a separate media interview, Lau stated that the OnePlus 9Twill not be released as the company's next T-series product later this year.

In a post on the OnePlus Community forums, Lau stated that the unified operating system would maintain the DNA of OxygenOS while also providing users with an “improved overall experience.” He also showed that CEO Garry C. is managing OxygenOS teams that would eventually be accessible as a unified software platform to integrate OxygenOS and ColorOS.

"With the merger of our unified Software resources for OnePlus devices and Oppo devices, we are able to combine both strengths with one stronger operating system - the quick, smooth OxygenOS experience, stability, and functionality," says Lau. "There are many different options available for OxygenOS.

OnePlus will also customize the unified operating system specifically for its devices in order to maintain a "clean and lightweight" experience and support unlock bootloaders, according to the executive.

The OnePlus and Oppo teams want to finish the integration in time for the next major Android version in 2022. There are currently no details on which existing devices will be eligible for the update. However, according to Lau, the unified operating system will debut on OnePlus' next flagship series in 2022. It's possible that it'll be dubbed the OnePlus 10.

OnePlus and Oppo announced their merger in June, and OnePlus became Oppo's sub-brand. Before eventually bringing the unified operating system, the business began combining its unique OxygenOS Android skin with Oppo's ColorOS.

Other than the new software platform, OnePlus is working on new hardware. In a forum post, Lau stated that the business would continue to provide handsets at various price points and localize more economical product lines, in addition to introducing premium and ultra-premium flagship phones to markets throughout the world.

He also stated that OnePlus was intensifying its efforts to improve the camera experience. This would be achieved by improving the user experience, collaborating with Swedish manufacturer Hasselblad to increase color performance, and investing in new and enhanced technology.

However, according to The Verge, Lau confirmed the OnePlus 9T's exclusion from the company's 2021 lineup in a roundtable discussion. The phone was rumored to be in the works, but OnePlus recently stated that none of its new T-series phones would be released this year, according to a source.

OnePlus has a history of releasing T-series phones in the second part of the year as an upgrade to its flagships. The trend began with the OnePlus 3T in 2016, however, it was adjusted with the OnePlus 8T last year due to the company's decision not to release the OnePlus 8T Pro.

The fact that no new T-series phones will be released this year could be related to the current chip shortage. According to a recent Bloomberg story, a 20 percent reduction in workforce at Oppo has resulted from a shortage of chip supplies and increasing costs of critical components.

The merger of OnePlus and Oppo is also causing redundancy, according to that report. Lau, on the other hand, is said to have denied the existence of any redundancies as a result of the merger.
