In India, the Samsung Galaxy M02s has just been released. Companies have been focusing on the mid-range market in recent years, ignoring the budget segment. Samsung hopes to meet the ever-increasing demands of affordable smartphone buyers with the M02s.
It has a big 5,000mAh battery and a 6.5-inch display with exceptional performance for the price to cater to the needs of the younger generation. So, should you get one? In this review, we'll discover out.
Specifications of the Samsung Galaxy M02s
The Samsung Galaxy M02s is equipped with a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, 3/4GB of RAM, and 32/64GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot allows you to expand the storage even more. It comes pre-installed with OneUI 2.5, which is based on Android 10. A 5,000mAh battery powers all of this.
The Galaxy M02s has a triple rear camera arrangement, which includes a 13MP primary camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. A 5MP selfie camera is located on the front of the device.

The Galaxy M02s has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with a U-shaped notch on the front. Apart from a fairly big chin, which is a design aspect far too frequent in this price range, it has small bezels that provide a terrific experience. The notch seems a little antiquated and could have been replaced with a punch-hole display to give it a more current appearance, but it's fine in this price range.
In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy M02s has a USB Type-C connection on the bottom edge. Micro-USB connectors in low-cost phones are no longer available, which is a great improvement. The 3.5mm headphone connector, speaker grille, and primary microphone surround the charging port. The power and volume controls are located on the right edge. There is only a SIM slot on the left edge, which can hold two SIM cards and a specialized MicroSD card. With the exception of the secondary microphone, the top edge of the phone is generally left clean.
Returning to the display, it's a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a 720x1600 pixel resolution. In general, the display is bright enough to read in direct sunshine, and the viewing angles are sufficient for everyday use. The display has adequate color fidelity, which isn't a problem given the price.
Performance, Software, and UI of the Samsung Galaxy M02s
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 engine is combined with 3/4GB of RAM in the Samsung Galaxy M02s. Our evaluation machine included 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space. With the phone costing less than Rs. 10,000, the older Snapdragon 450 chipset appears to be a good fit. The combination of the OneUI 2.5's extensive animations and the Snapdragon 450's poor performance made app switching and opening times a little longer during the evaluation period. There wasn't a lot of lag, but the slow animations gave the impression of lag at times.
I also tried playing Call of Duty Mobile on low settings, and the phone performed admirably, with very minor lag and slight warmth. Heavy games can be played on a smartphone, although it is not recommended. In everyday use, the performance is adequate for the price you pay.
The Galaxy M02s comes pre-installed with One UI 2.5, which is based on Android 10. The user interface appears to be sluggish. However, it adds a slew of new features, like a system-wide dark mode, face recognition, and more. Going to Settings > Advanced Features and setting on "Reduced animations" helped me achieve that extra bit of smoothness, just like it did on every other Samsung phone I've used.
Cameras of the Samsung Galaxy M02s
At the back, the Samsung Galaxy M02s has a triple-camera configuration. A 13-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro-sensor make up the package. The smartphone also comes with Live Focus, Pro Mode, and AR facial features from the company.
The camera app is simple to use and has a nice number of options. The lack of a night mode, on the other hand, is a bit alarming.
When we go to low light mode, the tale alters slightly. The phone failed to focus, and the resulting photographs were blurry. The 2-megapixel macro lens is present, but the quality is so poor that you'll wonder why you ever considered using it. In most circumstances, you're better off using a regular lens and zooming, and in others, the shots are so blurry and color-accurate that you won't dare to post them on social media.
The selfies are good; they aren't spectacular, but they aren't horrible either. Many smartphones in this price range offer a similar selfie experience. The image quality was a little grainy, and there were some details missing in spots like the beard. The beauty mode, on the other hand, maybe turned off completely, which is not the case with other phones.
The battery of the Samsung Galaxy M02s
The Galaxy M02s stands out among its competitors in terms of battery life. A 5,000mAh battery powers the device. Light to medium usage earned me two full days of use during my time with the device. The phone lasted more than a day even with intensive use. This makes it an excellent smartphone for frequent travelers.
